Week 8

May 27
Travel day from Hope, BC to Anacortes, WA
Our drive out of Canada
Waterfalls everywhere!
Once we reached Anacortes we regrouped to set forth a plan for the next few months.  It is still raining, but we decided to go for a short drive out on Whidby Island.
Deception Pass

 May 28
Travel day from Anacortes, WA to Salem, OR
Spotted these old cars on our way out of town.

May 29
It rained all night long so our trip to the Oregon coast is not very promising.  We've been here before, but couldn't resist going back.  Lo and behold just as we reached the Pacific Ocean the clouds parted!!
All of the area below will be under water when the tide comes back in.
These Mussels were found all along the outcropping in the photo right above.

 The water is so blue!
Then the sun went away about as fast as it had come out.  But the scenery is still beautiful.
Brandt's Cormorants and Common Murres
Yaquina Head Lighthouse

Pigeon Guillemots (love those red feet)
Yaquina Head Lighthouse

Cook's Chasm and Spouting Horn
It doesn't have to be a sunny day for this coast to be beautiful!
Haceta Head Lighthouse
Sea lions lounging about

May 30
Today is travel day from Salem to Canyonville, OR.  Took care of some much needed chores.

May 31
Road trip to Crater Lake National Park.  The last time we came here we weren't able to go around the lake.  This time we were able only to do the west rim.  The east rim won't open till mid-July.  Crater Lake gets an average of 533 inches of snow a year!
Lakes and waterfalls on the route to Crater Lake NP
Lost Creek Lake
Avenue of the Boulders at Mill Creek Falls
 Mill Creek Falls
 Natural Bridge Falls

Crater Lake is absolutely stunning -- from the deep blue water to the snow covered landscape.

Look at the height of the snow!

 Larry still in his shorts!!

On our way back, we spotted more lakes and rivers.
Mt. Bailey overlooking Diamond Lake
 Clearwater Falls

June 1
Still in the Canyonville area today we are taking a jetboat excursion to Hell's Gate, a canyon on the Rouge River.  It has finally warmed up enough for me to wear shorts!
